Lightweight Electric Scooter Comparison: PHSCOO, NIU, E-TWOW, Segway and Xiaomi

The short answer

There is no single winner; the right lightweight scooter depends on whether you prioritise raw weight, ride comfort, brakes, or after-sales.

The NIU KQi Air is the lightest at about 11.9 kg but has no suspension. The PHSCOO Butterfly Ultra weighs 13.5 kg and adds dual suspension, turn signals and a folding handlebar. The E-TWOW GT Sport also leans light and foldable. Heavier options from Segway and Xiaomi trade portability for size and comfort. Prices and specs change — verify the current model in your country before buying.

How to read this page. This is a comparison centre, not a hands-on test. PHSCOO figures come from its product specs from PHSCOO internal fact sheet v2.3. Competitor figures are summarised from each manufacturer's public materials as of the 2026-09 review and have not been measured side by side. Where a current price or spec could not be confirmed on a single review date, we leave an explicit placeholder rather than guess. Range figures were not measured under identical conditions.

1. Method and review date

We compared scooters marketed as lightweight commuter models for European cities, grouped around the 12–19 kg class. We deliberately did not pit a 13 kg commuter against a 30 kg off-road performance machine, because they answer different questions. Each model is described as a set of trade-offs rather than ranked 1 to 5.

We keep rated and peak motor power separate throughout, because a "700 W" headline can mean very different things depending on whether it is continuous rated output or a short peak. We also keep the factory speed setting distinct from any legal speed limit in your country — a scooter's top speed says nothing by itself about where you may ride it.

Price check (verified September 2026, European market). NIU KQi Air: €1,399 list, currently €799 on the official NIU EU store (shopeu.niu.com). Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro: €449.99 on the official Xiaomi France store (mi.com/fr). E-TWOW GT Sport: the official E-TWOW shop (shop.e-twow.com) quotes USD 1,099 → USD 798 and ships free to EU, but lists no euro price; local EU dealer prices vary. Segway E2 Pro E: the official Segway EU product pages (eu-en.segway.com) publish specs but no euro MSRP; current EU street prices are set by national retailers and should be checked on the day of purchase. All prices below are reference points, same market/day/configuration, incl. taxes.

Xiaomi is represented by the Electric Scooter 4 Pro (17 kg class), whose current EU specs and €449.99 price are sourced from mi.com/fr as of September 2026 (see section 8). Never compare a 13 kg model with a 19 kg model on weight alone — they suit different riders.

3. Weight and portability

If you carry the scooter up stairs, onto trains or into an office every day, weight is the first filter. The NIU KQi Air at about 11.9 kg is the lightest here, achieved with a carbon fibre frame. The Butterfly Ultra and E-TWOW GT Sport sit around 13.5 kg — still in the easily-carried class, but roughly 1.5 kg heavier. The Segway E2 Pro E at about 18.8 kg and the 17 kg-class Xiaomi are closer to "roll it, don't carry it" territory.

Weight is not the whole story. Folded dimensions and whether the handlebars fold flat matter in a hallway or on a train rack. The Butterfly Ultra and E-TWOW fold the handlebars down; the KQi Air keeps a fixed width. Test-carry the exact unit over your own stairs — a 1.5 kg difference is noticeable, but balance and folded bulk matter too. Our portability evidence page goes deeper on stairs and car boots.

4. Ride comfort and tyres

Suspension and tyres are what you feel on cobblestones, tram tracks and patched city pavements. The Butterfly Ultra and E-TWOW GT Sport include front and rear suspension; the KQi Air has none, which keeps it light but transmits more road buzz. The Butterfly Ultra's standard SKU uses a solid front tyre (on the motor wheel, to avoid drive-wheel punctures) with a pneumatic rear, while Red/Black SKUs offer both-pneumatic or mixed options. The KQi Air uses 9.5-inch tubeless pneumatics; E-TWOW uses 8-inch solid/airless tyres.

Larger pneumatic tyres tend to smooth out small bumps but risk punctures; solid tyres avoid flats but transmit vibration. There is no universally better answer — it depends on your road quality and your tolerance for repairing punctures.

5. Power, range and charging

Keep rated and peak power apart. The Butterfly Ultra is rated at 500 W continuous with a 700 W peak (the Austrian STVO version is capped at 600 W peak). The KQi Air is rated at 350 W with a 700 W peak. The E-TWOW GT Sport is rated around 500 W. A higher peak helps on short hills and from standstill; rated output describes sustained climbing, which depends heavily on rider weight and gradient.

Range numbers are marketing-friendly and were not measured on the same course. PHSCOO lists up to 53 km in ECO mode, with published ECO runs around 51.7–51.95 km at 20 km/h for a 75 kg rider at 25–30 °C on 3.5 bar; at the standard 25 km/h setting expect roughly 43 km. NIU claims up to 50 km and E-TWOW about 40 km. Treat all of these as upper reference points and keep a 30–40% reserve for hills, cold and headwinds. Charging on the Butterfly Ultra takes about 4.9 hours on the standard 2 A charger, with faster optional chargers.

6. Warranty and after-sales

PHSCOO Premium covers the battery, dashboard, controller and motor for 24 months without requiring content posting; Standard starts at 12 months on those parts, with the main frame at 24 months. NIU lists a 24-month limited warranty on the KQi Air. Segway and E-TWOW periods vary by seller and market — always request the exact European commercial warranty in writing. PHSCOO's service network is 7 points across Austria (4), Belgium (1) and France (2) as of September 2026; confirm whether a point near you accepts your model. Read more in the warranty guide.

7. Price and availability

The Butterfly Ultra Premium reference price is €749 and the Standard (red/black) is €699. As of September 2026, NIU's official EU store lists the KQi Air at €1,399 reduced to €799, and Xiaomi's official France store lists the Electric Scooter 4 Pro at €449.99 (see the price-check box above). E-TWOW's official shop quotes the GT Sport in USD (1,099 → 798) and ships to EU, while Segway publishes no euro MSRP for the E2 Pro E on its EU product pages — both are set by national dealers and move with promotions. Do not compare a historical list price from one country with a current sale price from another. Compare like-for-like: same country, same day, same configuration, including delivery and taxes.

8. The four comparison questions

PHSCOO Butterfly Ultra vs NIU KQi Air

This is the closest lightweight rivalry. Choose the KQi Air if absolute minimum weight (11.9 kg) and a carbon-fibre look matter most, and you ride smooth cycle paths. Choose the Butterfly Ultra if you want dual suspension, integrated turn signals plus a deck light, a folding handlebar and the option of a solid front tyre — at 13.5 kg. The KQi Air offers a front disc brake; the Butterfly Ultra pairs front regenerative braking with a rear drum. Neither has a proven wet-braking advantage on a matched test, so judge brakes on a safe road yourself. On warranty, both reach 24 months on core parts in their upper configurations, but read the exclusions; equal months do not mean equal coverage.

PHSCOO Butterfly Ultra vs E-TWOW GT Sport

These two are the most similar on paper: both around 13.5 kg, both with dual suspension and folding handlebars, both around 500 W rated / 700 W peak. The practical differences come down to small details: tyre size and type (8.5-inch mixed vs 8-inch solid), turn-signal fitment (confirm on the E-TWOW model year), current price and local after-sales. E-TWOW warranty varies by reseller, so get the terms in writing. If you are choosing between them, a test ride on your own surfaces and a side-by-side delivered price will decide it faster than any spec table.

PHSCOO Butterfly Ultra vs Segway Ninebot E2 Pro

This is not an apples-to-apples weight fight. The Segway E2 Pro E is about 18.8 kg — roughly 5 kg heavier than the Butterfly Ultra. That weight usually buys a roomier ride and a 10-inch tyre, but it makes daily carrying onto trains or up stairs noticeably harder. Choose the Segway if you mostly roll it, want a roomier ride and can store it without lifting it many times. Choose the Butterfly Ultra if portability — carrying indoors and on — is your priority. The Segway's rated 350 W / 750 W peak rear motor, 275 Wh battery, 10-inch tubeless tyres, front drum + rear electronic braking, built-in indicators, 100 kg payload and no suspension are confirmed on the official Segway EU product page (eu-en.segway.com, checked September 2026); the euro retail price and exact written warranty terms are set by national EU sellers and should be confirmed on the day of purchase.

NIU vs Segway vs Xiaomi

Across these three established names, the trade-off is predictable: NIU leans light and premium (the KQi Air at ~11.9 kg, no suspension, carbon frame), Segway leans mainstream and mid-weight (the E2 Pro class around 18.8 kg), and Xiaomi offers value-oriented commuters in the ~17 kg class. NIU buyers usually prioritise weight and brand polish; Segway buyers prioritise a familiar dealer network and balanced specs; Xiaomi buyers prioritise price and ecosystem. None of these is automatically "better" — match the weight and feature set to your carrying routine, and verify current models because line-ups change yearly.

Xiaomi reference model (verified September 2026). The current-value commuter on Xiaomi's own EU store is the Xiaomi Electric Scooter 4 Pro (model DDHBC20NEB): 17 kg, 350 W rated / 700 W max, 446 Wh battery, ~55 km claimed range, 25 km/h, 10-inch tyres, E-ABS regenerative + rear disc brake, 120 kg max load, IPX4, priced at €449.99 on mi.com/fr, with a 24-month limited warranty on the unit, battery and charger (mi.com/fr/support/warranty). The newer 4 Pro 2nd Gen (19 kg, 1000 W, ~60 km) and 4 Ultra (~24.5 kg) sit heavier and are a different weight class; figures sourced from mi.com official EU pages, market EU/FR, date September 2026.
